I am endlessly amazed at how God will give Luke an unforgettable day, right when I begin to falter and struggle. I feel like it is His way of reaching down from Heaven, giving me a pat on the back and saying, “Hang in there. I’m still here, and I’m still in this.”
This time, it came in the form of an event held by the organization, Surfers for Autism. If you know someone with ASD, I cannot recommend them enough. Ages four and over are eligible, and there are events going on throughout the year. Most amazingly, all the events are free to spectrum individuals. When was the last time you got any type of therapy for free? If there are no events in your area, you can also check with Surfers Healing, which is a similar organization.
I admit that I was very nervous to send my little boy out into the big wide ocean with strangers, but Luke sparkled! It brought my heart so much joy to see him taking to surfing as though he were born to do it. It was also so touching to see so many people turn out to support him and shower him with their love and attention.
One of his therapists put together this beautiful video of the event using pictures and movies she shot herself. Thank you so much for this incredible memento!
